Chairman of the state’s branch of JUSUN, Emmanuel Waniko, in a statement issued yesterday said the state government’s decision to embark on table payment of part of the arrears of salaries owed the workers was not acceptable. He stated that the union would maintain its stand on compliance with the constitutional provisions that prescribe financial independence for state judiciaries. Waniko also argued that the government’s refusal to implement an upward review and timely remittance of the age-long monthly subvention due to the state judiciary could worsen the looming crisis between the union and the three courts in the state. By Itodo Daniel Sule The Kogi State government said it is set to host the 37th edition of the Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA) which is scheduled to commence in Lokoja, the state capital on December 6, 2018. Kogi State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Prince Sani Ogu Salisu gave the indication at the weekend while inaugurating a 13-man Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the sports fiesta. Ogu, who said that the organisers of the games chose Kogi State to host the 37th edition because of the peaceful and conducive atmosphere in the state, assured that the state government was putting all necessary arrangements in place to make the event a huge success. He said the games would be officially declared opened on December 10, 2018 by the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello. Photo: Insidestory  The Kogi State Government has placed a bounty of N100 million naira on useful information that will lead to the arrest of the killers of Adabenege Yusuf.  Gov Yahaya Bello made the pronouncement when he paid a condolence visit to the families of his slain aide on Tuesday, the day reported to have been a special outing for "Aneku Sementi," a traditional masquerade in the custody of Yusuf.  Recall that Yusuf and his driver, Zubair Musa were assassinated on Friday November 16th, 2018 along Obehira-Okene road.  Gov Bello in his visit to both bereaved families, promised to take all measures to bring the perpetrators to justice. The Governor also dropped a phone number reported to be one of his personal lines specially dedicated to security reports through text messages, while assuring that identities would be protected.

   The Kogi State Government, Saturday shutdown 70 telecommunications sites, leading to a total blackout of telecom services in the state and other neighbouring states. The Association of Licensed Telecom Operators of Nigeria (ATLON), disclosed this in a press conference today in Lagos. “ALTON is worried by the action of the state government as it will jeopardise telecom services, especially to security agencies, financial services and other areas of the economy, ” said Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of ALTON. A report conducted by Clean-Up Nigeria, an organisation championing the protection of the environment, has revealed that Kogi, Osun and Nasarawa States remained “the three dirtiest states in the country.” The organisation, however, placed Akwa Ibom, Cross River States, and the Federal Capital Territory as the three neatest states. According to the report, while Nasarawa scored 12.2 per cent, Osun and Kogi states scored 11 per cent each. Others are Akwa Ibom (78.2 per cent); Cross River (64 per cent) and FCT (58 per cent). The 768-page study entitled: “Clean-Up Nigeria National Technical Working Committee Report on the state of the nation’s cleanliness performance ratings for states of the federation, state capitals/cities in Nigeria”, was conducted from October 2017 – October 2018 by 15 members of NTWC. Stakeholders in Kogi State have demanded a complete overhaul of the state ministry of budget and planning for effective service delivery to the populace. According to them, the presentation of budgets by the state government has become ordinary yearly rituals that have no effect on the living of the people. They, therefore, advocated town hall meetings with the masses before budgets ate prepared to ensure adequate inputs from the people that the documents were meant for. The people spoke at a one-day budget summit organised by the Centre for Human Rights and Conflicts Resolution (CHRCR) in partnership with Shehu Musa Yar’ Adua Foundation for stakeholders drawn from the state house of assembly, media, civil society organisations and the civil service.
