Plot to Impeach Kogi Speaker Thickens as Members Collect Signatures

The plot to impeach the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole, thickens as some lawmakers are aggrieved over his alleged self-serving and lackadaisical attitude towards the welfare of members. Punch Newspaper reports  that the members are angry over the alleged domineering attitude of the Speaker and his romance with the Executive, thus exposing them (other lawmakers) to executive manipulations. The lawmakers last week embarked on a strike to protest the non-payment of their salaries, constituency allowance and other allowances for several months. The Speaker was said to be only interested in his personal gains against the collective benefits of the entire members of the Assembly. It was learnt that the members were angered over the sycophantic role of the Speaker when representing them before the executive. Kogi Assembly Passes Youth Devt Commission Bill, 4 Others

Kogi House of Assembly has passed into law, a Bill for a Law to provide for the Establishment of Youth Development Commission, Implementation of Sustainable Youth Policy and other matters connected therewith, 2018. The Bill is among the five passed into law after their third and final reading, following clause-clause considerations by the Committee of the Whole at plenary in Lokoja. The House also passed a Bill for a Law to make provisions for the Establishment of Celuke College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ojiapata, 2018. It did same for A Bill for a Law to Establish “Kogi State Primary Care Development Agency and other matters connected therewith, 2018. Rowdy Session in Kogi Assembly as Deputy Speaker Stages Walkout over Bill

DailyPost reports that fresh crisis may likely resurface in the Kogi State House of Assembly as the Deputy Speaker, Hassan Abdullahi representing (APC Dekina/Okura) staged a walkout following his disagreement with the speaker, Prince Mathew Kolawole at the House’s plenary on Tuesday. The two principal officers were forced to argue before other members whether the House should form a committee of the whole to further debate on four bills which had passed through committee report. The aggrieved deputy speaker who believed the four bills for debate should be stepped down for another legislative day as earlier moved by Haruna Idoko (APC Idah) accused the Speaker, Prince Mathew Kolawole of being autocratic. To further buttress his position while the reports should be stepped down, honourable Abdullahi insisted that, the House did not form a quorum to look into the various bills.
