Labour, Kogi Elders Vow to Resist Proposed Sale of Ajaokuta Steel Company

By John Akinfehinwa  The United Labour Congress (ULC) has condemned in strong terms the planned sale of Ajaokuta steel company by the Buhari-led federal government to finance the 2018 budget. Recall that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, had earlier in the week in Indonesia, said the Federal Government is ready to offer more of its assets for sale soon, under the ongoing privatisation programme aimed at raising more money to implement the country’s 2018 budget deficit. Kogi State chairman of the ULC, Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo, in a statement obtained by DAILY POST on Thursday, stated that the proposed sale is intended to hand over the nation’s patrimony to the friends and cronies of the current government. “The proposed sale is criminal, as it is aimed at depriving the good people of the state their rights. “We shall mobilize the labour movement and civil society groups in the state to resist that open and an official robbery. “We have observed from th...

Kogi Public Complaint Commission Receives 100 Cases Monthly – Commissioner

By Itodo Daniel Sule The Commissioner of Public Complaint Commission in Kogi, Mr Otitoju Gabriel Olusuyi on Tuesday said on a monthly basis, the Commission receives an average of about 100 complaints bordering on administrative injustices from members of the public in the state. Otitoju, who was speaking in Lokoja after a road walk to mark the 43rd anniversary of the Commission, noted that more people had been trooping out to lodge their complaints following the increased awareness and sensitization campaigns carried out across the state. He said most of the cases received bordered mainly on wrongful dismissal from service; non payment of compensations for landed property; non payment of salaries, pensions and other benefits to workers and pensioners, amongst others. Otitoju said that a number of the complaints had been resolved while others are still pending. Kogi Gets Four New Laws

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello on Tuesday signed the Bill for an Autonomy for the Judiciary and State Legislature, and three other bills into Law.  The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Petra Akinti Onyegbule reported that while assenting to the Bill, Governor Bello said the law would enhance the effective operations of the legislature. Other Bills signed into Law today are: A Bill for a law to make provision for a Contributory Pension Scheme for employees in the Public Service in Kogi State and other matters connected therewith 2018. On this, Governor Bello remarked that his administration inherited a backlog of pensioners claims dating back as far as 15 years. A situation he described as “appalling”. According to His Excellency, a well administered contributory pension scheme will make retirement easier for civil servants so that they can serve their state assured of not having to suffer during retirement. Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello will perform the presentation to the monarch as the 44th Obaro of Kabba at the St. Augustine’s College field by 10 am. President-General of Kabba Development Union (KDU) and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Engineer Emmanuel Ajibero assured that all arrangements are in place to ensure a hitch-free ceremony.    The President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government is ready to offer Ajaokuta Steel Company and more of Nigeria's assets for sale soon, under the ongoing privatization programme aimed at raising more money to implement the 2018 deficit based budget.  The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele disclosed this yesterday while briefing the Nigerian delegation at the end of the International Monetary Fund/World Bank Group meetings in Bali, Indonesia,  confirming that more assets are in the offing. It was a day of honor and glory for Alhaji Yakubu Oseni, the flag bearer of APC in Kogi central as the jubilant crowd, mostly women took out in their thousands to welcome home their son barely a week after he emerged as the winner of APC senatorial primary, Kogi central. The entire Okene town stood still as everybody trooped out to welcome home their man of the moment, Alhaji Yakubu Oseni.  The venue of the occasion was the expansive compound of the country home of His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello. Kogi Central Senate: Natasha Akpoti Floors Ogembe, Oseni in Online Poll

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Natasha Akpoti has emerged winner of the online poll conducted for the top contenders jostling to represent the people of Kogi Central Senatorial District at the Red Chamber.  The one-week online poll which was conducted and hosted by Ebira Reporters was designed to weigh the online presence and popularity of the three major contenders, which include the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress, Yakubu Oseni and Ahmed Ogembe of the People's Democratic Party.  Calculated in percentages as represented in the chart below, while Akpoti polled 77.42%, Ogembe came second with 15.05%  and Oseni trailing with 7.53%.
